What We Do

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles matches adult volunteers (Bigs) with kids (Littles) facing adversity to provide professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that have a measurable and transformative impact on the lives of our youth, our mentors and our community.

What Does It Take To Be A Mentor?

Anyone can be a mentor. It is about starting a consistent friendship and inspiring positive change to empower children to believe they can achieve what they never dreamed possible. You can simply incorporate your Little into your everyday life: play sports together, picnic in the park, take your dog for a hike or go to the beach. Being a Big will be one of the most enjoyable and fulfilling things you do, while also being a force of change in our community.

How Do Bigs And Littles Get Matched?

Common Interests

We spend time getting to know Bigs and Littles to make a good match and lasting friendship. Do you both like sports, music or surfing? We look for things you have in common so you will always have fun together.

How Do I Become A Mentor?

Community

Once matched with your Little, our involvement in your relationship is just getting started. We're always on hand to provide support every step of the way. You'll also be connected to our community of Bigs through a private Facebook group, agency-planned match events, and outings with other Bigs.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles at Silver Lake, Los Angeles.

Our second #MatchChronicles photoblog profile belongs to Big Sister Elissa & Little Sister Meri! These two have only been matched for two months, but they are clearly soul sisters. Let's get to know them a little better...
--
Meri: 10th grade
Elissa: Paralegal at NBCUniversal
--
We asked them to describe each other in three words and Elissa said positive, upbeat, perky, beautiful (inside & out), a sweetheart, and fashionable, while Meri responded with gentle, very very talented in dance and EVERYTHING, gives great advice, and compassionate. Ok, that's more than three words, ladies, but we love your fondness for each other, so we're letting it slide! :)
--
These two beauties are both gifted dancers who love music and talking about boys. Some mornings, Elissa will text a picture of Meri's favorite boy band and just say "have a good day" to start her Little's day off right! Meri says "she's like a best friend, it's been really hard for me trust people in the past, but with her, I opened up. She's a safe haven for me."
--
When we asked how their relationship has changed since they met in February, Elissa said, "she's already changing me, I'm even more committed to my volunteer work because I want the world to be better for her." Meri smiled and said, "I'm doing what I'm doing, but better, with higher expectations for myself since I met her."
--
Finding someone who makes you want to be a better person is something to be cherished in life. We're delighted to have connected these two incredible women and can't wait to share more of their stories with you!

It's #NewMatchMonday and we'd like to introduce you to Little Brother Bronx & Big Brother Tim!
